God damn it, does it start again? That bugging feeling, the slight ache in the stomach that slowly penetrates, the need to go number 2 as they say. But there are no nearby toilets! And I'm next to people, I'll have to hold it in, and continue the trip, it is probably just a random stomach ache. But slowly, creeps in the weakness, the nausea, I can't eat nor drink without making it worse, but all is fine, as long as I keep walking – I'll think less of the pain, I probably ate something bad, it is common in these kind of trips. Then you come back home, and the pain is still there, only more frequent and more harsh, so you try to tolerate it despite the stress and anxiety, what's the wonder? I am a student after all, with enough student loans to keep China knocking on my American butt for the next 200 years. The family doctor tells me it is all psychological, I am a young fella after all, active, and healthy, you lost that weight due to the fact you work and study most of the day, no wonder you dropped 20 pounds ! Then sudden as lightning, a day comes when you can't even stand on your feet, the room spins, the pain mauls at your stomach like a chainsaw, you cry for mercy and relief – then the diagnosis arrives – you have Crohn's ! Crohn's disease is defined as a chronic inflammatory bowel disease acronym for IBD, an autoimmune condition that targets your digestive tract system (upper and lower) and can pose serious life-altering and threatening complications both physically and mentally on an individual.
It is important to clarify that currently there is no definitive scientific evidence that cannabis can be used as a treatment for CD, however, on paper, what can it offer?
What method – oi? Inhalation? Edibles? Suppositories? The method of consumption when it comes to Crohn's depends on the effects that are required, if it's a flare-up and you need an immediate response – Inhalation (vaporizing recommended) or SL will cause an effect within minutes and last a bit longer. If the disorder affects your large intestine / rectum / Sigmoid. Suppositories, in theory, might be an interesting prospect and option – since they'll be absorbed fast through blood vessels in your rectum, they skip metabolism through the liver avoiding, thus psychoactive metabolites and postponed effect and onset, and hold anti-inflammatory attributes they are close to the targeted area (lower G.I track).
It is not easy for scientists to study the medicinal properties of cannabis because of legal constraints. Also, the concentrations of the psychoactive compounds in the plant vary widely. Conclusion It is too early to crown cannabis as the salvation to those with Crohn's, but the prospect is untenable if medical cannabis can take care of Crohn's many woes
